In New York, once an adverse order or judgment has been served, a party has a very limited time period to take an appeal.

Post-trial Practice
Where a case has been tried and a jury verdict has been rendered, but before a judgment has been entered, a losing party can seek post-trial relief by motion practice to have the jury verdict modified or overturned, and if applicable, seek a new trial on liability or damages. Our efforts in this regard have proved very successful over the years and we have saved our clients significant amounts of time and money, because it has been our experience that the successful outcome of a post-trial motion will facilitate a favorable settlement in lieu of further litigation.
